Understanding The Real Reasons Why Work Gloves Are So Necessary
You can count the number of reasons on one hand why you should look after your hands by wearing work gloves. If you have ever cut your finger then you'll have been surprised at just how many times each day you rely upon that particular finger, and that particular part of your finger.
Most employers have a legal obligation to provide suitable work gloves to employees and to contractors who may be working on site under current health and safety legislation. In many cases employees also have a contractual obligation to wear the work gloves and safety gloves which are provided. Unfortunately we live in a society governed increasingly by litigation, and so it is often from the point of view of such a threat that employers are increasingly anxious to ensure that adequate work gloves are provided at all times.
A great deal of importance is placed on our hands, unsurprisingly since they are critical to everyday living. Even a small amount of damage or a slight accident can result in a person being entirely unable to work either for a long period of time, or the rest of their lives. So the importance of work gloves is well understood. What is less understood and appreciated is the fact that there is an enormous range of work gloves available.
Many years ago, before the advent of the litigation society, work gloves generally fell into one of one category: leather gauntlets. If the job wasn't dangerous enough to warrant the wearing of leather gauntlets, it wasn't dangerous enough to warrant the wearing of any type of work gloves.
Fortunately today we are much better informed, with new technology, new materials development and a greater understanding of the way in which materials can work together to provide a much more appropriate and effective level of protection providing us with an astonishing range of work gloves suitable for almost any eventuality.
Of course it is important to realise that work gloves don't just help to provide protection against potential dangers and risks within the workplace. In many cases the risks may be relatively minor, but with a potential risk associated with repeated exposure to certain conditions, such as vibration.
In other cases work gloves don't so much provide protection as support, particularly in those cases where a repetitive strain injury is a possibility, such as working at a computer. Clearly wearing gloves isn't going to help improve a person's typing ability, but work gloves can also include wrist supports, which helps to protect the fleshy underside of the wrist against the pressure on the edge of the desk, as well as providing support to the wrist and hand over long periods of time.
Then there are also those work gloves which help to improve performance and efficiency. Working with relatively small and delicate items can be tricky, and so wearing a thin pair of cotton gloves which have a nitrile patch on the underside of the fingertips and thumb can massively improve the ability for workers to manipulate and handle equipment and products, speeding up production time. But when there is a risk of danger and accident today there are far more work gloves around them simply leather gauntlets.
A quick glance at the range of Showa gloves available reveals the massive range and variety available. From work gloves which provide protection against cutting and puncture, to work gloves which provide protection against abrasion, vibration, cold, heat, static and many other risks, means that employers today needs to be fully aware of exactly what the risks are, and the best type of work gloves to choose in order to provide not just protection, but effective protection. A good place to start would be to explore the current range of Showa gloves available.
