World of Warcraft: Which race and class is best for me?
Hi, I just bought World of Warcraft and can't decide which race to be! I would like the race and class to be:
From the horde
Use mostly spells to deal out damage
Has some healing spells
Equip medium-high armour (leather, chain etc)
Has quite high mana

Hello Nathan,
It looks like your requirements fit the Shaman class perfectly. Please check out the first source, below. They can equip mail armor at level 40, and they are solid healers throughout. At level 30 they can use Call of the Elements to immediately place 4 totems, which makes them very useful in any PUG (pick up group) for random dungeons. If you're running solo quests, you'll need to be an Enhancement Shaman. Windfury Weapon and Flametounge Weapon make this character very tough. ...and you'll still have self-healing skilz.
Also, you may want to try the Druid class (second source below). A fully-geared Druid can actually match a fully-geared Palladin in PvP. And, like the Palladin, the Druid can take any role in a dungeon or raid, and fulfill it very well. End-game Druids are the best for Heal-Over-Time effects. If you're facing a boss or mob that deals a lot of damage throughout the battle, you'll want a Druid healing your party. But Druids are rough in the early portions of the game. Until you get to 40 or 50, you will need to play with a friend to keep you from dying often, especially on PvP servers. The other drawback is the likelyhood of wasting bag space. If you change roles a lot, you'll need different sets of gear if you want to maximize potential. As long as you're running as a healer or tank, you'll be able to obtain the gear using less time than most DPS. But it still takes up a LOT of space. lol
Finally, if you're willing to forego the armor requirement, you may want to try the Priest class. On the third source, check out the recommendations for Shadowform under "Early Talent Suggestions". Under most circumstances (without totems), Priest have a high level of mana regeneration for healers. You'll still want to gear your character with plenty of intellect, but until Cataclysm comes out, spirit will be a strong second in importance (before stamina thanks to Priest's abilities to minimize aggro using Shadowfiend).
